Dieser horstbildende Rohrkolben aus Europa und Nordamerika zeichnet sich durch seine meist niedrig wachsenden, bl\u00e4ulich-grauen bis mattgr\u00fcnen, schmalen, fast linienf\u00f6rmigen Bl\u00e4tter (bis zu 1 cm breit) aus. Die Pflanze w\u00e4chst aus verdickten Rhizomen. Die Bl\u00fctenstiele sind meist k\u00fcrzer als die Bl\u00e4tter. Die Bl\u00fcten an den Stielenden bestehen aus zusammengesetzten \u00c4hren: kastanienbraune weibliche Bl\u00fcten (Zigarren) an der Unterseite und ein schmaler „Schweif“ aus m\u00e4nnlichen Bl\u00fcten dar\u00fcber. Diese mehrj\u00e4hrige Ufer- oder Sumpfpflanze bevorzugt einen sonnigen Standort in leicht saurem Wasser und n\u00e4hrstoffreichem Boden. Wuchert nicht, breitet sich jedoch aus.
