This perennial from the South- to Southwest-European nature grows with creeping, tetragonal, thread-like stems on which short-stalked, rounded, green little leaves appear (in opposite position). The pinkish-red little flowers appear from the leaf-axils. In nature this plant grows in wet, marshy meadows or heatherfields. Also cultivated are some varieties like ‘Studland’ and ‘Sunrise’. For a spot in sun to light shade. It tolerates acidic to limy soil. Moderately winter-hardy.
