Water Hawthorn is originally from South Africa, it is a aquatic plant which appears to flower unpredictably, Its clean white blooms have a hawthorn fragrance, giving them their common name, and the flowers appear in mid-spring onwards they take a break in mid-summer, during a mild winter they may continue to appear intermittently. In deep water the plants will survive the winter at the bottom of the pond, but where winters are severe it is a good idea to lift baskets and overwinter the plants indoors.
