This Japanese Iris-species likes to grow in wet soil to in 20 cm deep water.The plant grows out of fleshy rhizomes and has very narrow, green leaves in which the conspicuous midrib (characteristic of many Irisses) is almost absent. The deep purplish blue flowers show a prominent pale yellow signal-spot onm the flags. The species is good winter-hardy, some of its varieties are less hardy. Beautiful and enduring flowering swamp- or pond-plants.
