This short, creeping perennial originates from swampy and wet areas in Japan. It extends rather rapidly and ground-covering and tapistry-building and has small, semi-evergreen, toothed leaves. It flowers with variable, two-lipped, violet-blue to pink or even white little flowers, which show white and yellow speckled markings inside. After flowering smal fruit-capsules with fine seeds are produced. For a sheltered spot in moist to periodically wet, fertile soil and water depths of 15 cm. Reasonably winter-hardy.
