This floating water-plant from tropical South-America is a member of the Euphorbia-family and extends fast by horizontal runners (stems). The plant produces up to 2 cm diam., round, green but colouring into a marvelous red, floating, overlapping little leaves in water with a temperature of 21-30 °C and sufficient light. A great aquarium-plant which provides for shade in the water below. The mass of stems and roots forms an ideal shelter for fish-fry. The plants need rather much nutrients (incl. iron).
