This Greater Spearwort is endemic in big parts of Europe to Central-Asia. This creeping marsh-plant may show its big, glossy, yellow flowers on up to 2 m tall, less branched, upright stems above water. But the plant will spread by hollow, lying roots. The first leaves to appear will be more or less kidney-shaped, the stem-leaves are elongated, After flowering small achenes with short beaks are produced. The plant prefers to grow in a sunny spot in wet, reasonably fertile soil to in shallow water. Perfectly winter-hardy.
