This species of Arrowhead is endemic in Europe to Central-Asia and in North-America. It produces long, narrow, submerged leaves at first, after that egg-shaped to elongated floating leaves and at last arrowpoint-shaped leaves over the water. The male and female flowers (in panicles) are white with a purple heart. In Eastern-Asia the root-tubers which the plant produces, are eaten. In Europe and the USA it is a decorative plant for preferably a sunny spot in shallow water and moderately fertile pond-soil. Good winter-hardy.
