This carnivorous pond-edge/marsh-plant grows ground-covering and tapistry-building with long, funnel-shaped, variegated leaves (green with deep red markings and white dots) and flat, ‘normal’ leaves (called phyllodia). In the funnels insects are caught and digested. The plant flowers with ball-shaped, deep red flowers on nodding stems. For a spot in sun to light shade and wet soil to 1 cm deep water. Winter-protection is needed during severe frosts. Semi-evergreen. Old leaf-funnels can be cut away in spring. Plant-distance 20-30 cm.
