This carnivorous plant from the area in the USA north of the Gulf Coast flowers in spring with red flowers on nodding stems. They are followed by small funnel-shaped leaves (spring-type) which are followed by flat, non-carnivorous leaves (phyllodia). In early autumn the most beautiful and tallest carnivorous, variegated leaves appear. A marvelous species for wet soil and a spot in sun to light shade. Moderately winter-hardy. In many areas winter-protection is necessary. Semi-evergreen.
