This semi-evergreen, carnivorous marsh-plant is conspicuous for its orange-maroon, funnel-shaped leaves in which insects are digested. In spring/early summer the orange-red flowers grow high over them on separate stems. Semi-evergreen. Like all Pitcher Plants it shrives only in acid (absolutely limefree), wet soil. A tapistry-building ground-coverer. Does tolerate temperatures some degrees below zero, but during slightly more severe frosty weather protection against freezing is indispensible.
