This fern from Europe, Asia and North-America likes to grow in moist to wet, slightly acidic soil to shallow, slightly acidic water. The leaves will unfold beautifully in spring. The plant produces spores in circular spores-boxes from July till October. They appear near the veines on the fertile fronds, which show longer parted-leaves and reach up to 1m tall. Taller than the infertile leaves (which are up to 60 cm tall). The plant grows from a creeping, branching root-stock and forms yellow leaf-stalks. It may expand rapidly. Good winter-hardy. For sun to light shade.
