This water lily has the darkest red full flowers and was introduced in 1994 by Perry D. Slocum (USA). The petals surrounding the centre of the flower are almost black red, with the outermost petals somewhat lighter. The strong, floating leaves are dark green on top of reddish brown, hairy stems. The plant remains quite compact and therefore can also be used in small ponds. It is quite winter-hardy but the roots should not be allowed to freeze.
